Pole Dance Shorts Coverage Guide: Full, Classic and Cheeky Explained
How much coverage do you want from your pole dance shorts? Full, classic and cheeky describe how much of your bum the back of the shorts covers. The right choice comes down to what you feel good wearing and which areas of skin you need free for grip.
Coverage at the front matters too. A cheeky cut can still keep your intimate areas covered. Whatever style you choose, check that the shorts fit comfortably and stay in place as you move.
Full, classic and cheeky at a glance
- Full or fuller coverage: more fabric across the bum, with leg openings that sit lower at the back.
- Classic or moderate coverage: a middle ground between a fuller sports short and a cheeky cut.
- Cheeky coverage: a higher cut at the back that reveals more of the lower and outer bum.
- Adjustable coverage: side drawstrings let you change the length of the shorts and how much of your thighs is exposed.
Use these labels as a guide. Their meaning varies between brands, and the same cut can look different on different bodies. Check the back and side photos alongside the product description.
Fuller coverage: more fabric across the bum
A fuller cut covers more of your bum and usually sits lower at the back of the legs. It may suit you if you prefer a classic shorts shape or want more coverage for choreography and studio sessions.
For pole technique, make sure the fabric leaves your grip points clear. Choose a cut that feels comfortable for the moves you are practising.
Classic coverage: a balanced cut
A classic cut offers a little more coverage at the back while still showing the shape of your bum. It is a useful starting point if you are deciding how much coverage feels right for you.
Mandy mid-rise pole shorts cover more of the bum than Hot Pants. Compare their back views to see which cut you prefer.

Cheeky coverage: a higher cut at the back
Cheeky pole shorts reveal more of the lower and outer bum. A higher cut can also leave more skin exposed around the upper thighs and hips for contact with the pole.
Betty high-waisted pole shorts combine a shaped high waistband with a back cut between classic and cheeky. Choose Betty if you like more coverage over your stomach with a back that is more revealing than classic but less cut away than Lola.

Lola scrunch bum pole shorts have a high waist and a gathered detail at the back. Wear them a little higher for a more revealing look, or slightly lower for more coverage. This comes from where the shorts sit on your body; Lola does not have adjustable side drawstrings.
You can also compare Monica mesh pole shorts, Mia low-rise pole shorts and Hot Pants. Each combines a cheekier cut with a different waist height or finish.
Adjustable coverage: change the length with side drawstrings
Emma drawstring pole shorts let you adjust the length on both sides. Loosen the drawstrings for more coverage, or pull them tighter to gather the fabric and expose more of your upper thighs.
This is useful when you switch between pole technique, choreography and hot yoga. Adjust both sides, then try a few of your usual movements to check the fit.

Back coverage and crotch lining
Dragonfly shorts have a lined crotch, including Anna and Emma. The exceptions are Celine and Zoe, which are made with a leggings-style construction. Like our leggings, they do not have this crotch lining.
The lining adds comfort, but coverage during movement also depends on the fit. The size, crotch shape, leg openings and tension in the fabric all affect how the shorts sit during straddles, splits and inversions.
Choose a back cut you feel good in, then check that the shorts fit comfortably at the front and stay in place as you move.
How to choose your cut
- Start with what feels comfortable. Decide how much of your bum you want to cover. You may prefer different cuts for different sessions.
- Leave your grip points free. Check which areas of skin need contact with the pole for the moves in your class.
- Think about how you train. Adjustable shorts can be useful if you want one pair for pole, floorwork and hot yoga.
- Check the size and fit. The crotch should stay in place, and the leg openings should feel comfortable without digging in.

Try a few movements before you decide
When trying on a new pair, follow the return policy and keep the movements within a comfortable range. Try:
- a squat;
- a wide stance or gentle straddle;
- a knee lift;
- a forward bend from the hips;
- gentle hip circles.
Check that the crotch stays in place, the leg openings feel comfortable and you still like the coverage at the back. You should be able to move without repeatedly pulling the shorts into position.
How waist height changes the fit
Two pairs with similar coverage at the back can feel quite different if one has a high waist and the other sits low on the hips. Waist height determines how much of your stomach is covered and where the waistband sits, so consider it alongside the back cut.
