High-Waisted, Mid-Rise or Low-Rise Pole Shorts: Which Should You Choose?
The rise of pole shorts describes where the waistband sits. It affects how much of your stomach is covered and which parts of your waist remain free for contact with the pole. It does not tell you how much the shorts cover at the back.
Low-rise: less fabric around the waist
Low-rise shorts sit lower on the hips. They can feel comfortable if you dislike fabric over your stomach or want more of the waist and side body exposed. Mia is a low-rise option in the Dragonfly range.
Check the front and crotch coverage when you squat and lift a knee. A lower waistband should still let you move without repeatedly pulling the shorts into place.
Mid-rise: a waistband between the hips and high waist
A mid-rise cut is worth trying if you want some stomach coverage without a very high waistband. Mandy and Hot Pants both have a mid-rise waist, but Mandy covers more of the bum. That makes them a useful comparison: similar rise, different back cuts.
Both can work well on a shorter torso. Your own proportions and preferred waistband position still matter more than the label.
High-waisted: more stomach coverage
High-waisted shorts extend further up the torso. Some dancers enjoy the covered feeling; others prefer less fabric when bending. Betty offers a high-waisted cut, while Lola pairs a high waist with a scrunch detail at the back.
Emma is also high-waisted. Its side drawstrings adjust the leg length and side coverage. They do not turn the shorts into a different waistband construction.
Check the waistband against your movements
Reach, bend and sit during your fitting. Notice whether the top edge presses into your ribs, rolls at a bend or covers a contact point you need. The same high-waisted pair may sit closer to the ribs on a shorter torso and lower on a longer one.
A short torso does not rule out high-waisted shorts. Emma and Lola are among the Dragonfly cuts worth comparing, alongside the mid-rise Mandy and Hot Pants. Try the height you enjoy rather than assuming one category is always right for your proportions.
Choose rise and back coverage separately
If you want a high waist with a cheeky back, look for that combination. If you prefer more back coverage, compare the rear product photographs rather than inferring it from the waistband. For a broader comparison, use our guide to choosing pole dance shorts.
Take your measurements, check the size charts and browse the shorts collection. Choose the waistband that feels comfortable and leaves the skin you need free.
